Hey. What’s up. Can I get a hell yeah for this AMAZING weather we’re having in the cities?
Don’t you love the beginning of January? Everyone’s all motivated to make it their best year yet. You buy planners, set goals, and even commit to going to the gym.
I’ve been on my A-game lately, you guys. By lately, I mean the past week and a half. I’m currently doing the Alchemy 365 Challenge. This consists of dragging my ass to a 5:30 am class, eating cauliflower rice bowls (lots of guac, lots of lean ground turkey, lots of goodness), and being on the go constantly.
Between working out, working, and running around town, I need it to be as easy as possible to get dressed for the day. You know those memes where your friend says she’s 5 minutes away but still getting dressed…. that’s fucking me. But it takes me forever to get dressed because I put something on, take it off. Put something else on. Take it off. Repeat a couple times. Go with the first thing I put on.
I acknowledge and have come to terms that I am bad at time management and I need to work on it, k?
Anyway, back to the point. The point is I need something that I can wear to work AND the gym, to the gym and then to the coffee shop, or the days where I just want to look the cute but be comfy AF.
Thankfully, it is acceptable to wear leggings as pants now (reference Vogue’s Golden Rules for Wearing Athleisure) and there are literally a million brands that make activewear, aka athleisure. This makes it even easier to make it to the gym AND Target. Even if you aren’t going to the gym, athelesiure is acceptable to rock because there are sooo many cute tops, sneakers, leggings, joggers, etc. It’s flattering, comfy, and hot. WIN-WIN-WIN.
Now – just because EVERYONE makes atheleisure does not mean they are all on the same playing field. Forever 21 leggings do not equal Lululemon leggings- however- you DON’T have to spend a fortune to build your workout wardrobe. Just some basics and you’ll be GOOD TO GO.
GO TO ATHLESIURE:
Leggings: Obsessed with the Fabletics Salar Leggings. Fabletics in general has some pretty cute outfits. It is a SUBSCRIPTION based service, so keep that in mind if you buy an outfit and then wonder why they charge you again next month. You’ll need to skip or cancel. Because they have so many different types of outfits (workout, lounge, yoga, etc.) I typically pick one that includes these leggings. Love this one and this one.
Padded sports bra: The key here is that it is PADDED. Personally, I would rather not draw attention to my boobs and I am constantly nipping out (even when I’m not COLD), so I NEED a bra that’s padded. Plus, I can wear it underneath my work clothes and it’s one less thing to change when I go straight to the gym. Just bought this one and this one.
Tank Tops: I cannot work out in anything with sleeves, even if it’s negative out. I get too sweaty. Way too fucking sweaty. I love all of the cute strappy tanks that I get a good sweat in (the ones with built bras are life-changing) or run to the grocery store in. Obsessed with this and this.
Sweatshirt: Well, you obviously need to throw something on over your tank if you live in MN. Layers are key and thank God they make cute sweatshirts that can double up as a jacket or cardigan. The fabric of this sweater is structured, which is chic as fuck. I also have this one from Abercrombie.
Sweats: Joggers! Stripes! Tracksuits! The 90’s are back but less baggy and more structured. Pair your joggers with tennis shoes or a heel. Pair your ADIDAS stripes with a turtleneck or a workout t-shirt. Boom.
I’ve come a long way from my pastel Hanes and top-of-my-head ponytail in college, don’t you agree? Just call me the modern-day Sporty Spice.
Catch me burpee-ing it up at Alchemy. Come take a class with me. I need more friends.
sweating per usual,
